Information will appear in this area as needed. Sufficiency hearing scheduled in Lansing April 19. This meeting is merely to determine if all legal requirements were met when GLAVAC submitted their petitions to the State. If the petition passed the sufficiency test, there will be much more information forthcoming on the next part of the process. Passing sufficiency does not create a village, but only brings us one step closer to putting the question of village-hood to a vote of the people. RESULTS OF SUFFICIENCY HEARING PRESS RELEASE 19 APRIL 2007 The Gun Lake Area Village Advisory Committee (GLAVAC) was unsuccessful in its first attempt to petition the State of Michigan on the matter of the Village of Gun Lake. The petition was an attempt to allow the proposal of a village to be placed on a ballot for a public vote. The Petition, which included the signatures of hundreds of local registered voters, was found to have included all necessary signatures, however an error in the legal description of the boundary. The State procedure on matters such as this is an exacting process, and a clerical error by the surveyor hired by GLAVAC, forced the State to deny the petition in its entirety. With the denial of the petition, all previously gather petition signatures became invalid. GLAVAC will now have the error corrected and again collect all of the signatures to the petitions and then re-submit the petition package to the State. This process will begin immediately. GLAVAC intends to hold open meetings for the public to attend for an open exchange of information and to answer questions. These meetings should provide for an open and honest discussion of the pros and cons of creating a village as well as provide for verification of facts. Look for notices of these meetings in local newspapers and on the website www.villagefacts.com. New Links page added to other new Villages (see navigation bar above Last updated September 17, 2007

MISSION STATEMENT
GLAVAC is committed to working toward allowing the citizens of the Gun Lake area to vote on the creation, at a minimal cost, of a village for the future guidance and protection of our community. We maintain that a village government, unified by a common mission, would deliver better results for the Gun Lake area and its residents. We feel that the quality of life for the Gun Lake area residents, and the environmental quality of Gun Lake would best be addressed by a government focused exclusively on that community.
